Recycle to help Keep Morrow Co. Beautiful

A little about who we are...
The Delaware/Knox/Marion/Morrow (DKMM) Solid Waste District is a legal political subdivision of the State of Ohio and is funded by a $6.00 per ton contract fee on municipal solid waste generated within the District. The District's Board of Directors consists of twelve county commissioners from its four-county members. The Board is charged with implementing the District's
Solid Waste Management Plan.
DKMM funds programs that provide education about alternatives
to the disposal of generated wastes.
These programs include recycling; composting; education; solid waste enforcement and monitoring; household hazardous waste; electronics; and tire collections.
DKMM also provides grant funding to private and public-sector entities to improve or implement
new effective waste management programs.

REVIEW THIS LIST OF ACCEPTED ITEMS FOR MORROW COUNTY ELECTRONICS RECYCLING
If you you reside in Delaware, Marion, Morrow or Knox County, you may use the Morrow County drop-off location. (Each TV and CRT monitor costs $20 to recycle.) You must call 419-946-6400 to schedule an appointment to properly recycle your electronics. This year's Earth Day celebration includes the opportunity to recycle your electronics on Saturday, April 20 and on Monday evening (April 22). Throughout April, Morrow County Residents may also drop off their electronics at Cardington-Lincoln Public Library. No appointment is necessary. Call 419-864-8181 for details and for the cost of recycling a TV or CRT monitor at the library. Please click the following link for other locations in the DKMM district that accepts electronics: DKMM Electronics and TV collections
Building Materials
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore encourages individuals, businesses, builders, and remodelers to help prevent reusable building supplies from landing in the landfill. Please Call your local ReStore to confirm your item is accepted and to schedule a pickup or drop-off. Donations must be of a higher quality so that people will purchase them to install or use in their homes or properties. All donations are tax deductible.
Reusable and not so reusable Stuff
China, Crystal, Ceramic Bakeware, and Glass (Pyrex) Bakeware, socks and shoes and gently used furniture are items that are not accepted through drop-off or curbside recycling programs. They may be placed in the trash. However, if still in good condition, find someone who could use it or donate it. In addition to the above, Goodwill accepts single shoes and holey shirts and working electronics (including coffee pots and computers). Please call your local 2nd hand stores for more information on acceptable items for donations.
compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL)
Many hardware supply stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, ACE Hardware, ect...) offer in-store recycling for CFL bulbs, plastic bags, and rechargeable batteries. Make sure you check directly with the store before you bring your items. Not all stores in regional or nationwide chains may be equipped to recycle. Customers may bring in expired, unbroken CFL bulbs. Place them in a plastic bag and deposit the blub in the bag into a collection unit. Most units are located near customer service areas or near the entrances and exits of the stores.
Plastic Shopping Bags
Return plastic shopping bags and plastic film (like vegetable and fruit plastic bags and bread bags) to stores like Kroger, Meijer, Lowe's, Menards and Walmart. Bins can usually be found at the front entrance and/or exit of the store or near customer service counters.
Battery Recycling
For your safety and the safety of our residents, all battery terminals must be taped prior to dropping off household batteries for recycling. If batteries are not taped, there is a potential fire hazard. Button batteries must be taped on the bottom side.
Household Batteries will not be accepted for recycling unless terminals are taped. Please take rechargeable batteries to Lowe’s, Menards and to other stores that sell them on a regular basis. Recycle your spent batteries with taped terminals at the following locations in Morrow County: Morrow County Recycling (480 Douglas St, Mt.Gilead, OH 43338); Morrow County 911 Center (140 S Main St, Mt Gilead, OH 43338); Morrow County Health Dept (619 W Marion St., Mt Gilead, OH 43338)
pAINT dISPOSAL
- Latex paint is not hazardous, it is more of a nuisance than anything. The DKMM recycling district strongly encourages you to dry latex paint in the can. If you add enough drying agent, the paint will dry very quickly.
- If the paint has already hardened in the can, take the lid off and throw the dried paint away with your trash. Paint must be thoroughly dried and the lid off of the can for your trash hauler to take your paint cans. Please keep in mind, heavy trash cans may not be picked up by your trash hauler.
- Always air dry your paint in a well ventilated area away from children and pets.
- Add kitty litter or paint hardener to the can and stir it in. You may have to add more drying material than you think. Keep adding and stirring until the paint is dried and there is no liquid remaining in the can.
- If the amount of paint is less than 1/4 of the container, the paint will dry in the can with the lid removed. Stirring the paint every few days will speed up drying.
- Donate useable leftover paint to local community groups, theater groups, schools, churches and others. Local Habitat for Humanity ReStores also accepts useable paint (check for tax deductions.) The local restore location that accepts latex paint is Marion Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 1713 Marion Mt.-Gilead Road, Marion, Ohio 43302. Call 740-386-2030 for applicable fees. (paint can image with brush from clipart-library.com)
- Do you have too many cans of paint to air dry? Then plan to attend DKMM's 2024 latex paint collection day. For full details, click on this link: 2024 Latex Paint Collection
