Morrow County, OHIO

Brownfield Remediation Program

This program is designed to provide grants for the remediation of brownfield sites across Ohio, to clean up the sites and prepare them for future economic development. A Brownfield site is defined as an abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial, commercial, or institutional property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by known or potential releases of hazardous substances or petroleum. Activities that are eligible under this grant are Phase I and II Environmental Assessments and Asbestos Assessment and Abatement. A Phase I Environmental Assessment is a detailed title search that looks at who has owned the property in the past. A Phase II Environmental Assessment looks at what potential contaminants might be present in the soil or ground water and then creates an "insurance policy" of sorts to give to future owners so that they are aware of what is on site.

Morrow County received $997,950.00 in funding for three brownfield sites.
